Scagliola is a historic Italian technique dating back to the 17th century, originally developed to recreate the depth, grain, and tactile richness of rare marble and hard stones. Crafted by combining fine plaster, natural pigments, and glues, the material transforms a humble mineral base into a dense, stone-like medium with a luminous surface quality.

The Process & Craft

Pigment & Composition

Natural earth pigments and mineral oxides are blended into the plaster mixture, embedding color directly within the body of the material rather than applying it to the surface.

Hand-Molding & Shaping

The material is built up, shaped, and sculptured entirely by hand using spatulas and manual pressure. This allows for fluid organic geometry, intricate internal movement, and unique color gradients impossible to produce through natural stone extraction.

Polishing

Once fully cured, the piece undergoes a multi-stage process of hand-sanding and manual polishing. Treatment with straw oil enriches the mineral matrix, deeply saturating the pigments and giving the surface its distinctive depth and soft, tactile finish.

Contemporary Vision

By taking a centuries-old artisanal tradition and pushing it into contemporary sculpture and functional design, each piece becomes an irreplicable study in texture, weight, and color. Because the internal patterns form naturally during the manual mixing and shaping phases, no two objects can ever be identical.
